You may think Oz the Great and Powerful is the prequel to the 1939 classic movie The Wizard of Oz. It's not. It's actually the movie imagineering (I think I made that word up) of what happened before L. Frank Baum's first Oz book, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." Not EXACTLY the same thing, but the real question is - will you like it? KidsPickFlicks.com's Movie Star Movie Critics Joel Courtney (Super 8, the upcoming film The Between) and Katherine McNamara (New Year's Eve, the upcoming film Contest) say absolutely, rating it a 5-star PICK! Here's their movie review:
"Witches, magicians, and munchkins, oh my! Oz the Great and Powerful provides a unique take on what happened before Dorothy arrived. With an antihero of a wizard played by James Franco, the fate of Oz is uncertain in the hands of not the original two, but three different witches! These women are all brilliantly played by Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Weisz. Their performances are simply magical. Full of a colorful cast of characters, this film is sure to bring out the child in anyone. However, this movie is a bit scary for the youngest munchkins. The 3D effects in this film are among the best I have ever seen as well. It keeps audiences gasping from beginning to end. Now to the all important question... which witch is the evil witch? Well, you'll just have to see the movie to find out, my pretties! 5 stars."
