US Gymnast Gabrielle Douglas Wins Gold

It’s so true that if you work hard you can accomplish anything you want to! 16-year-old Olympic Gymnast Gabrielle Douglas has done just that at the London Olympics by winning gold medals in both the individual and team all-around competitions.

Gabrielle started gymnastics at six years old and has been dedicated to being an Olympic Gymnast since she was twelve! She moved away from her home in Virginia at fourteen to train full-time, while living with a host family in Iowa. Two years later, we think it’s safe to say all of Gabrielle’s hard work has officially paid off!

Gabrielle and the rest of the US Gymnastics team were up against the Russian team, but our girl was leading the pack from the start! She scored 15.966 on vault, 15.733 on bars, 15.500 on beam and 15.033 on floor. She did so well she has even scored a nickname - the flying squirrel!

It's awesome to see someone taking home the gold this early in her career! Good luck for the rest of the games Gabby, we’re rooting for you!
