Sonny with a Chance star Sterling Knight will be starring in his own Disney Channel Original Movie "StarStruck!" Fanlala got to sit down with the Disney cutie on Tuesday in Pasadena, CA to talk about his new character, filming the movie, and being a star. He is such a sweet guy! Check out our exciting interview with Sterling!
Fanlala: Tell all your fans about your new movie "StarStruck!"
Sterling: I play Christopher Wilde, who's this obscenely successful pop star. My character happens to bump into this girl, this down-to-earth girl from Michigan and she's completely unimpressed with my pop star status. We end up on these crazy adventures in Los Angeles - running away from paparazzi and getting into trouble! I realize there's a lot about myself I need to change - she helps me realize that. She learns the life of a pop star isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's actually a lot more difficult than it appears.
Fanlala: Which celebrity inspired you for your role as Christopher Wilde in "StarStruck?" Sterling: I kind of looked up to Justin Timberlake as I was building the role in my head. I was thinking Justin Timberlake, fresh out of 'NSYNC and dating Britney Spears - who knows everything he's doing, getting photographed and recorded, which is kind of a pain.
Fanlala: Can you relate to your character, Christopher Wilde, in real life?
Sterling: I think I can relate to Christopher on a couple levels. The personal life and the dating - certain things are for me to know and for others to think about and not know. But I can definitely relate to the work ethic and the side that he really tries to make everyone happy, at sometimes the detriment of himself.
Fanlala: Your "StarStruck" co-stars were no strangers to you! Tell us about who you worked with in the movie!
Sterling: Yeah! [There's] several people on cast like Brandon [Mychal-Smith] and Chelsea [Staub] I've known for years. It's always fun to work with people I know! And they brought in new faces that were equally as fun to work with, like Maggie [Castle] and Danielle [Campbell]. That was a lot of fun! We had a good group of people and everybody brought something good to the table!
Fanlala: You also shot a music video for the movie with your co-star Brandon Mychal-Smith! What was that like?
Sterling: Shooting a music video is crazy! It's really hard! They're long, long days. I had no idea that it's quite a ridiculous effort for a music video that looks that good. It was really fun though! It was a whole different experience.
Fanlala: "StarStruck" has a lot of scenes around Los Angeles? What was it like shooting at so many famous places?
Sterling: We shot at a lot of iconic landmarks. We got really close to the Hollywood sign for one shot. It was great! We shut down Sunset Boulevard, which was crazy! I apologize to everyone that we inconvenienced! It was just a lot of fun. Being in LA and seeing all these cool spots and having fun while working, it was great!
Fanlala: What's your fave place in Los Angeles to take your friends from out of town?
Sterling: I have this little place right on Hollywood Boulevard. It's Shelly's Cafe. It's this little hole in the wall, just dingy little place. It's great food! It's convenient and it's fast. So that's where I like taking people, a quiet spot.
Fanlala: Since your character is a pop star, you had to perform and sing a lot in the movie! Will we be seeing you on tour anytime soon?
Sterling: I like singing. I like performing. I grew up in theatre so performing in front of people has always been one of my fun things I enjoy. Right now, I wanna focus more on the acting.
Fanlala: When and where can your fans see you in "StarStruck?"
Sterling: Everyone can see "StarStruck" on Disney Channel at 8pm on February 14, Valentine's Day!
