Nick Jonas Speaks With the Senate

Nick Jonas took a break from his hectic world tour with his brothers to stop off in Washington D.C. It wasn’t a vacation, though; he went straight to the Senate to talk about the need for government funding on diabetes research.

Nick has had Type 1 Diabetes for about four years now and he told the Senate what it was like finding out he had it: “It was during a concert tour in 2005 that I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. My brothers were the first to notice that I had lost a significant amount of weight – fifteen pounds in two weeks. I was thirsty all the time and I had a bad attitude,” he added with a chuckle, “which is unlike me.”

He told them that a lot of new technologies have made him able to manage his illness and keep up his hectic lifestyle on the road. He admitted, though, that, “While technology has made it easier to manage my diabetes, technology is not a cure.”

Nick also wrote a song about his experiences with Diabetes called “A Little Bit Longer.” Click here to see him perform this personal song.

We think it was great of Nick to make time for that important meeting with the Senate and we wish him the best of luck! Check out his entire speech here.
