While the focus is on athletic prowess and national pride, the attire athletes wear still matters in the Olympics. This is especially true in gymnastics, where costumes prove almost as important as floor routines and uneven bars.
In last night’s team final, each country brought a different look to the arena. Each team wears a different leotard with hair slicked back in tight ponytails. Japan wears black and white leotards with a large red circle on the side with rays emanating out. Russia wears red and white leotards with silver sparkles. Great Britain shines in navy, wearing dark blue leotards with a navy glitter design.
The US wears red leotards with silver beading all over. The bedazzling on the uniforms creates a 'v' and makes Team USA stand out as they twinkle under the lights. Their costumes definitely helped inspire the US to earn the gold!
The Olympics always bring out interesting fashion choices, with swimmer Ryan Lochte sporting a diamond encrusted grill in his teeth when he accepted his gold medal earlier this week or during the Opening Ceremonies, when different countries showed off clothes representing their home countries.
Congrats to Team USA for winning gold last night in gymnastics! We can’t wait for the individual events later this week and to see what each gymnast wears!
