EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Spencer Boldman

Spencer Boldman is making a name for himself both in the television and movie world. He’s already been on an episode of ‘iCarly’ as well as ‘I’m in the Band.’ Next month he will star as Adam on Disney XD’s ‘Lab Rats.’ Fanlala got to chat with Spencer on what he’s been up to recently, and we’ve got the interview right here!
Fanlala: IMDb says you were coaxed into trying out for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Did you always want to be an actor?
Spencer Boldman: When I was little, I was obsessed with movies. The first movie I ever got was 'Mission Impossible.' I wanted 'Spy Kids,' but I got that one instead. I really got into the whole movie thing at an early age, and since I couldn’t be a spy in real life, I figured why not be one in a movie? So I looked at and watched a lot of respected actors’ interviews. I was kinda shy in middle school. My teacher saw me do a scene after school one day, and I really wanted to do theater. I ended up booking the lead role!
F: If you could live in the world of any of the shows or movies you’ve acted in, which one would you pick?
SB: Ooh, that’s a tough one. Probably ‘Lab Rats.’ My character Adam is goofy and funny, and I wish I saw things the way he did. He grew up in a lab mansion, and he’s out of his environment for the first time. He’s excited for everything, he’s like the comedic relief of the show. Adam doesn’t take himself or life too seriously, he’s more concerned with things like food and animals. Cheerleaders, too.
F: In 'Lab Rats,' you play a super-powered robot, which superpower would you pick in real life, and why?
SB: I’d probably like to turn invisible. It would help if you needed to get out of a situation, or needed some alone time. You could walk around people, and they don’t know that you’re there. And especially with my schedule getting crazier and crazier, it would definitely help.
F: Your Patriots are in the Superbowl this year, any plans for the big game, and what are your plans if they take home the trophy?
SB: Oh yeah! I’m a huge New England Patriots fan, which is odd since I’m from Dallas. This year I’ll be watching the Superbowl with some of my friends from the show in production. If they win, I’ll just be really happy with it. I don’t know how else to say it. Tom Brady, the entire team, they all deserve it. They worked really hard. A few years back the Patriots were so close to being in the Dallas Superbowl, and I would have loved to have seen that. I just want to see them take home the trophy!
F: You’ve had a big presence on television in the past few years, what do you have waiting for you on your DVR every week?
SB: Right now I’m a big fan of what’s on the Discovery Channel. I love watching Bear Grylls on ‘Man vs Wild.’ There’s this new show out called ‘Gold Rush’ that I’m a huge fan of. ‘Modern Family’ and ‘30 Rock’ are two other shows. I’m a huge fan of comedies. ‘Friends’ is another one, it’s not on anymore, but I still love watching reruns.
F: Every star has their little secret to get themselves through stressful days, what do you do in your dressing room in between shoots on set?
SB: I love listening to music. My dressing room is more of a man cave; I have a whole bunch of interesting stuff in there. I have a big round Papasan chair, and a lot of the time, the rest of the cast just hangs out in my dressing room. I’m not gonna lie, it’s pretty cool. When I’m off set, I really enjoy working out, whether it’s hiking or going to the gym. Otherwise I love listening to music. It really helps me take myself out of everything.
F: Justin has Beliebers, Twilight has their Twi-hards. What should Spencer fans start calling themselves?
SB: I’ve been on Twitter since July, and I already have huge support from a lot of people, especially since the show hasn’t even aired, yet. I have a lot of people calling themselves Boldmanators, or the Boldman Brigade. There’s not a specific name, but I want the fans to choose what they want to call themselves, I just really love the support!
Sounds like Spencer has his hands full, but is having fun with everything. We wish you the best of luck!
