EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Singer Rachel Crow

Rachel Crow Interview

Rachel Crow is all set to become the next big thing in the music industry.  She made huge waves during her time on ‘The X Factor,’ and as one of Nickelodeon’s newest stars, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the world catches Rachel fever.

Even though she’s on tour with both Big Time Rush and Cody Simpson, Rachel was able to chat with us.  We got to find out what it was like touring with BTR, and she told us what it was like recording her recently released EP.  Check out the interview down below!

Fanlala: How long was your self-titled EP in production?  Did you have any of the songs written while or before you were performing on ‘The X Factor?’

Rachel Crow: We started producing the album after ‘The X Factor.’  “Mean Girls” is something I wanted to write - I just wanted to write a ballad.  When we went into the studio for the first time, we did “Rock With You.”  Three days later, I recorded “Mean Girls,” and a couple of days after we recorded “What a Song Can Do.”  It’s a beautiful ballad with an upbeat side.  It’s very soulful.  We did “Lemonade” after and then “My Kind of Wonderful.”

F: You’ve starred on several Nickelodeon shows, including their revival of the classic ‘Figure It Out.’  Did you have any Nick favorites growing up?

RC: Oh wow, ‘All That’ was a fun show, and I really liked 'The Amanda Show.'  All of those quirky shows were fun for me.  I really liked a lot of shows.  Oh!  And 'Spongebob,' I really like 'Spongebob.'

F: You and BTR are more like BFFs at this point.  Along with Cody, what’s been your favorite moment from the tour so far?

RC: I love being able to perform for everybody.  On ‘The X Factor,’ we had a routine every week.  We’d go in studio, pick our songs, then the next day we’d rehearse it, and the next day it would be choreography, and it would be like that every week. Now we’re doing one every night!

I would say that the most memorable part was after I got off the stage, I was still in the moment.  Fans were waving their hands.  I was expecting maybe 20 people at my meet and greet, but I just saw a sea of people that never ended.  The line wrapped around the venue, and I just cried, I was so happy.  It was awesome!

F: The songs on your EP have a very soulful feel to them.  What inspired you to give your music the feel that it has?

RC: I would say that it has a retro feel to it.  I realized my true passion.  That’s the kind of feel it was meant to have.  I wanted it to really sound retro, and Simon helped me out with that.  I feel that it’s different from what a lot of kids listen to.  It’s a sound that’s not really out there, and it’s very original!

F: If you could collaborate with any artists today, who would you pick?

RC: I’d totally want to work with Eminem, because I love him and he’s awesome.  Eminem is really the big one that I’d love to work with.

F: We also know that you’re teaming up with DoSomething.org, can you tell us a bit more about that?

RC: It’s an amazing cause, because we’re not only reaching out to adults, but kids, too.  We’re going to those who are underprivileged.  Recently, we went to a library, and had them write something on a piece of paper that you couldn’t see by looking at them right away.  It was amazing seeing kids not being scared to say things to their classmates.  And I feel like it really helped them out, I told them that it was important to follow their dreams.

F: Do you have anything in the works, possibly following the tour, that your fans can look forward to?

RC: Definitely!  I’m filming the pilot for my show, and I’ll also be recording my album after the tour!

Let us know if you’ve seen, or have tickets to go see Rachel on tour with BTR.  She’s all set to perform in Phoenix tonight, so get ready for a show you’ll never forget Arizona!
