‘Shake It Up’ fans would immediately recognize Ainsley Bailey anywhere as Dina Garcia, Deuce’s (Adam Irigoyen) girlfriend. Ainsley has been acting for a long time now, and with her returning to ‘Shake It Up,’ we wanted to find out more about her career, and how she got to where she is today.
We got to ask Ainsley a few questions, so without further adieu, see what she had to tell Fanlala about her life as an actress!
Fanlala: We’re super excited to see you back in the next few episodes of ‘Shake It Up.’ What can we expect from Dina this time around?
Ainsley Bailey: Thank you, I'm excited to be back! I can't wait for fans of the show to see season three. We're only a few episodes in and already there's a lot of surprises in store for the viewers! As far as Dina's character, you're going to see her interact more with the other cast members this season. I'm excited to see all the fun, new story lines the writers come up with!
F: How would you relate to your character Dina. Are there things that are completely different about you two?
AB: Well, Dina is definitely more of a tomboy, whereas I'm more of a girly-girl. She's more outgoing than I am too, which is really fun to play since I'm on the shyer side. When I play Dina, I get to be totally fearless and just have fun with it! I think Dina is a really ambitious person, and I'd like to think I am too! And we both love cute headphones!
F: What has been your favorite part on set during your time on ‘Shake It Up?’
AB: There's been so many good memories, it's hard to pick just one! I've had a lot of fun getting to know the cast and crew, it's just a really cool group of creative, hard working people. I always love wardrobe fittings because they have the cutest clothes in the wardrobe room! And sometimes on shooting days, we get to have 'cookie pie' at lunch; it's this amazing cookie/pie/ice cream dessert and it's sooo yummy!
F: We’ve heard that you have some impressive improv skills, have you ever taken them to the stage?
AB: Oh, thank you! I absolutely love comedy improv, as an actor it's definitely one of my favorite things! I'm a huge fan of The Groundlings, which is an improv theater and school in LA. I was lucky enough to take a few classes there earlier this year and I had such an amazing time. I learned so much! A lot of really talented comedic actors and actresses trained there, and it's definitely a dream of mine to become a Groundling.
F: Your first role was onstage for a production of ‘The Princess Diaries.’ Can you tell us about your journey from stage to screen?
AB: Yes! I played Princess Mia, I was so thrilled! I started doing community theater when I was 10 years old, and I did that for a couple years before deciding I wanted to try to get into TV and film. I started taking some classes for television and film acting, and I signed with a local agency in Dallas. Over the years I've just kept up training hard and really giving it my all. I teamed up with an amazing manager who helped me get signed with an LA agency. When I found out I would be auditioning for the role of Dina, I flew out to LA the next day for the audition. I had a callback the next day, and that night I found out I booked it! I was so excited, and I still feel so thrilled and grateful to have been given this opportunity.
We’re super excited to have you back on the show Ainsley, and we wanted to thank you so much for chatting with us. Make sure to check out Ainsley in this week’s brand new episode “Slumber It Up” on July 29 at 8:30p.m. ET/PT only on Disney Channel. Best of luck with everything, girl!
