EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Savannah Outen
You know her music, and saw her at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Now Savannah Outen and ‘Zhu Zhu Pets’ are teaming up and sweeping the nation. That’s right, singer Savannah Outen recorded a song for the latest movie ‘Zhu Zhu Pets: Quest for Zhu.’ Fanlala got to talk with Savannah about this project and other bits of her career. Fanlala: What inspired you to upload one of your videos to YouTube?
Savannah Outen: It was actually my parents idea. Nothing was happening at the time, and they heard about a site called Youtube. So we thought, 'Why not try it out!' and I'm so glad I listened to them because it's been such an awesome journey so far. And I've been able to reach tons of people with my music, thanks to Youtube.
F: Being part of the creativity behind Zhu Zhu Pets, we have to know, if you could have any pet in the world, what would it be?
SO: I would love to have a giraffe or dolphin as a pet. I got to feed a giraffe once and swim with a dolphin. They are just the sweetest animals. That'd be really cool.
F: You graduated early from school, what would you want to be if you weren’t pursuing a career in music?
SO: Something still in the entertainment industry. Dancing has been a huge part of my life so I probably would've stuck with dancing. Or something completely different, own a really cool coffee shop :)
F: Everyone has their routines to get ready for the day. After you wake up, what do you do the morning of a big event?
SO: Depends what time the event starts, but usually I'll sleep in, have some eggs and toast, then start getting ready and rock out to John Mayer.
F: You’ve already been compared to the likes of Britney Spears and Carrie Underwood. Would would you say inspires you most in the music you write?
SO: I am really inspired by writers that take chances and risks. Bon Iver is an incredible writer. John Lennon also inspires me every day I hear his songs.
F: Zhu Zhu Pets are taking the nation, and the world, by storm. They’ve been released in all styles - from princesses, to babies, to rockstars. Which of the adorable line is your favorite?
SO: They sent me a Zhu Zhu Pets goodie bag a few weeks ago, so I got a ton of adorable things. My little cousins love the princesses so I'll have to pick those. They're all so cute, though!
F: The Zhu Zhu Pets soundtrack is adorable, we recognize a lot of the songs on it, but how did it feel to get to add your own voice into the mix?
SO: It was really exciting! It's awesome to be featured on the soundtrack. It all came about pretty fast. Once I was approached for the Macy's Parade, they asked if I'd like to be on the soundtrack. I said yes immediately. Especially since my little cousins are obsessed with Zhu Zhu Pets :)
