'Shake It Up' is well into it's third season on Disney Channel, and we love what we've seen so far. We just had to know what's coming up on the show, so we decided who better to ask than one of the cast members themselves?
That's right! We got to chat with Caroline Sunshine, who plays Tinka on the show, about the current season of 'Shake It Up,' as well as the music she's come out with recently. See what Caroline had to say!
Fanlala: Now that ‘Shake It Up’ Season 3 is in full swing, can you tell us any stories you might have from the set of the show?
Caroline Sunshine: It’s awesome, it really feels like sophomore or junior year of high school. We’re all really comfortable at this point. For the first season, everything was new and exciting, and we just had to take it all in. But now I know what I’m doing, just like the sophomore or junior years, I feel so comfortable with the cast and crew.
Actually, over the past few weeks, we’ve had a prank war going on, and I was totally not expecting that. It’s been kind of a girls vs guys thing, and the girls are TOTALLY winning. The last prank we pulled was covering the guys room COMPLETELY with pics of us. But aside from all that, we love going out to lunch, and just hanging out. We listen to music in each other’s room. We’ve had a lot of fun so far and we all know what we’re doing.
F: With Gunther away, how will Tinka’s character change towards Cece, Rocky, and everyone else?
CS: One of the most important things about Tinka is that she’s never going to change, but at the same time, she’s never going to stay the same. New is a really good way to describe my character. Gunther has gone back to the old country to take care of our grandmother, and Tinka is now on her own. She lost her partner in crime, so she’s going to have to step out of her comfort zone. There will be new situations, and she’ll be making new friends. Really, it’s a situation anyone can relate to. It can be scary and exciting all at once. This really will be a great moment for Tinka, we’ll see more of a friendship side from Rocky and Cece, but she’ll still be the sugar and spice to the show.
F: Is there any inside info you can give us from Season 3 of ‘Shake It Up?’
CS: I’m really excited. Once again, “new” is such a good word to describe the show. There will be a lot of new relationships between different characters, we’ll be meeting new family members. There’s also a brand new ‘Shake It Up Chicago’ set. The design is amazing, and I can’t wait for the fans to see it. You can always expect really funny storylines, expect to laugh, and some amazing dance numbers.
F: What is a typical day like filming on the ‘Shake It Up’ set?
CS: One of the great things is that there’s never a typical day. I’ll walk in at at 7 in the morning, and they’ll say “we’re going to put a cake on top of your head.” And we’ll be told that we’ll be fighting with the cake, and that we can dig into it and just throw it around. Another great thing is that we’re always dancing, singing, and acting all in the same day. In one of our last episodes, I got to do some scenes with Roshon, Bella, and Zendaya. then I went to dance rehearsal, and we ended up dancing to my song. So it was like I was singing, dancing, AND acting all in one scene. It was crazy.
F: We read that you’ve collaborated with another one of your cast members, Roshon. Not only that, but you have a Christmas song out, what can you tell us about those tracks?
CS: YES! I’m so excited about the Christmas song. The album came out this month, and on it I cover “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey. It’s one of my favorites, and when they asked if I wanted to cover the song I was like “Absolutely I’ll cover it!” So I’m very thankful for the opportunity, and I know my fans will love it, and I really want to thank them as well.
I’ve also never done a duet before, and I got to do my first with Roshon. It should be featured on ‘Shake It Up’ this season, and I really love the song. I had a really good time doing it. It’s something that everyone will like.
F: What other projects have you come out with recently or do you have lined up in the future?
CS: I’m really excited for everyone to see the upcoming episodes of Season 3. Each episode is so special, and there’s a lot of work, thought, and passion which makes each episode so special on its own. I’m really excited for the music, and the fans know how much I love playing Tinka. I keep telling the crew if they want to see more of Caroline’s singing, I’d love to show them that. And I definitely want to work on my music outside of the show.
Caroline is always so great to talk to, and we can't get enough of her music. If you haven't heard her cover of "All I Want for Christmas is You," what are you waiting for? Check it out on the Disney Channel Holiday Playlist. Our girl has a fantastic voice!
