We got to chat with Camplified star Karlee Roberts, and now it’s her older sister’s turn for the spotlight! Marlee is an accomplished actress with a well-founded singing career as well.
Want to know more about Marlee, and what her Camplified experience was like? Then check out our interview below!
Fanlala: Have you ever been to camp before? What was it like?
Marlee Roberts: I've been to camp once… I was actually a camp counselor on an Environmental trip and it was so much fun. We had a bonfire, sang camp songs, wrote skits, and rode on giant rope swings and zip lines. The only activity they couldn't get me to do was go into the lake and discover the sea creatures and bugs that lived there. Eww.
F: If you could only bring three things to camp, what would they be?
MR: I would bring three large cases of bug spray… my current record is 30 mosquito bites on one leg at the same time. No joke. I learned the hard way.
F: Do you know how to make a campfire?
MR: No… but I'd love to learn. Can you teach me?
F: What would you rather cook on the campfire, s'mores or hot dogs?
MR: Give me s'mores please ;)
F: Who are you excited to see perform at Camplified and what inspired you to do the tour?
MR: I'm excited to see Karlee of course! It's also exciting to perform with DJ Mikey Salerno. He's very talented and always gets the crowd going. I'm hoping that I get to watch most of the artists on the tour perform! I'm stalking all of their Facebook pages and getting their music onto my iPod. Each artist has something uniquely satisfying and I love expanding my playlist.
What inspired me…. hmnn let's see. Summer camp + Performing + Touring the US = how could I say no!?
F: Which musician would you love to do a duet with?
MR: Haha, okay John Mayer, Michael Buble, Josh Groban or Jack Johnson (in no particular order). I love male voices and I'm particularly fond of the music from the four artists above.
F: What was it like filming the video clip for your single “Uh Oh”?
MR: It was so much fun! We actually shot it during the winter and got lucky we didn't get a very cold season in the Northeast so I was able to still wear skirts and dresses and things. I think my favorite part about the shoot was discovering all these beautiful locations, like various areas of Central Park I never knew existed and this gorgeous castle-like church in the middle of the woods.
F: What is the best piece of advice you could give for kids who want to get into the entertainment industry?
MR: Never ever give up. It's all about working hard and sticking it out when things get rough. If you truly want something, you'll never stop trying to reach your goal no matter what obstacles get in your way. Perseverance and determination. It's not an easy ride but in the end the journey is your destination so enjoy every step of the way. As much as we all wish it could be true, nobody becomes an overnight success. It takes years of training, practicing, learning, and growing. Baby steps.
F: Are you excited to go on tour with your little sister Karlee?
MR: Yessss! She's a blast to be around. We're always cracking up, arranging songs and making music together. We'll never be bored or get sick of each other. Karlee is my best friend in the whole world and going on tour with her is the biggest blessing.
F: Which do you like better; acting or singing?
MR: Oh man. I don't know if I can live without either one of them. I suppose they both compliment each other. When singing, you must also act. You have to feel the music and put yourself in the situation about which your singing. I think you have to be an actor if you're a singer.
The artists of Camplified have been super nice to talk with us, and Marlee was no exception! Make sure to check out “Uh Oh,” Marlee’s amazing single! And stick around for more interviews with the artists of Camplified!
