EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Artist Dylan Hyde

Dylan Hyde Interview

You may have heard his covers online, and you’ll definitely be hearing more of him in the future.  Dylan Hyde has been called the next Justin Bieber by the San Diego Reader.  Found during a musical theater production, Dylan is skyrocketing in the world of pop music, and he’s set up to open for both Cody Simpson and ‘American Idol’ winner Scotty McCreery in the near future.

Fanlala got to ask Dylan a few questions about his music and rise to fame.  Check it out below!

Fanlala: Can you tell us a bit about your career in musical theater, before you were discovered?

Dylan Hyde: Well I started out at CYT, Christian Youth Theatre, the nation largest youth theatre, when I was 8. My audition song was “Where Is Love” from the musical Oliver. My whole life before being discovered revolved around theatre. My grandfather and my mom both do theatre. My friends do theatre. It was sort of my comfortable bubble. All of my social interactions involved being in a show or going to a show. Musical theatre in way is the foundation for my performance experience. Sort of the first love.

F: Many people call you the next Justin Bieber.  Did you ever have dreams of making a name for yourself with your talents?

DH: Yes. I think when I hit 13 some ideas of having a singing career started to form. I always dreamed of having a super-star career and performing around the world. So being the next Justin Bieber is not bad. But neither does it define who I am as a pop singer. I'm a crooner! I love the love songs, the sad songs, the make you feel good songs. I want to reach into your life with my voice and connect with you. I don't merely want to just entertain, I want to create a memorable experience.

F: If you and Justin could collaborate on a song together, what would you want to sing about, and what would the song style be?

DH: I think it's only fair that the song shows both of our strengths as singers. I think we do song that starts off as ballad and then drives into something faster beat wise to suit his style. But I would want it to be about something more than just our experiences as people, singers. I would want it to be about something more important. About inspiring our generation to something more.

F: Now that you have been signed to a record label, where do you plan to take your career next?

DH: I think it's time to concentrate on the album development, my tour and the release of the album. I plan on being in music for years and years. Ultimately I want the careers of Sting, Bono and Tony Bennet. I want longevity and to be a legend. I also want to run my own label at some point. To help other artist make their careers.

F: What other activities do you have to pass the time, anything in school?

DH: I'm home-schooled. I spend most of my time doing homework and writing music. Occasionally, I get the chance to hang out with my best friend Zacariah (he co-wrote on my singles, “Love Never Ends”) and we go around my hometown searching for adventures. Our big thing is to talk about running our future record label and drinking tea. And I can't forget eating ice cream and hanging with my baby sister Dakota.
