Be on the lookout for Harley Graham, a young actress who is making waves both on the movie scene, and quite literally! She’s starring as a young version of the character Kim in the upcoming surf flick ‘Chasing Mavericks,’ in theaters October 26.
We got to chat with the actress about her upcoming role in the movie, as well as her other roles including voicing a brand new Disney Princess! Check out what Harley had to tell us!
Fanlala: You play the young version of the character Kim in the upcoming movie ‘Chasing Mavericks.’ What is Kim like, both in your role and in Leven’s shoes?
Harley Graham: I play young Kim, Jay Moriaty’s best childhood friend. Levin’s "Kim" and Jay become closer as they go through high school and as Jay becomes a maverick surfer.
F: ‘Chasing Mavericks’ is all about hitting that big wave. Have you ever tried your hand at surfing, or are there any sports that you really love?
HG: No, I don’t surf yet but I do boogie board and I love to swim. I play volleyball and tennis also.
F: Another one of your exciting projects has you joining a long list of Disney Princesses. What is Princess Clio like, and how does it feel being a part of such an important part of Disney’s history?
HG: I love voicing Princess Clio. She is one of the youngest princesses. She is very sweet. I really can’t say anymore about her yet because the show hasn’t aired, but I feel very blessed to be a part of Disney. I watch all their shows and love their movies.
F: Starring in several movies and TV shows, you have to have some favorites of your own. What movies or shows have you been watching lately?
HG: My favorite show right now is "Smash". I love that show! The acting and singing by the cast is awesome. I love animated films - I think Finding Nemo and Lion King are my all-time favorites.
F: We heard you’re big into charity work. Can you tell us about your work with PAWS, St. Jude’s, and Alex’s Lemonade Stand?
HG:My cheerleading squad at school raise money for these charities all year long. We sell lemonade and snacks to students after school for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, we do math-a-thons and sell baked goods for St. Jude and for PAWS. I also collect plastic, cans and glass for recycling and donate the money to PAWS.
F: You became an actress simply after asking “When’s my turn?” What was your brother acting in that inspired you, and can you describe to us your path in acting up until now?
HG:It wasn’t any one thing. My mom used to bring me with to set when he was working and I just watched everything and saw how much fun he had on set and at his improv classes. I started on a soap opera, "The Bold and The Beautiful" when I was 4 and worked on it for 3 ½ years. From there I did commercials and TV. I started doing film the last couple of years and really love it. Films let you work on location and are a lot different from TV work.
It sounds like Haley has a lot in store for her in the future, but we think she can handle it! ‘Chasing Mavericks’ debuts in theaters this fall, so be sure to get your tickets as soon as they become available!
