The term “diet soda” is deceiving. The sugar free version of Coke, Sprite, Mountain Dew, and others appear to be the smarter, and more acceptable choice. The ingredients used to sweeten them are chemically made to satisfy our sweet tooth cravings. BUT, artificial sweeteners like aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose are imitations and have been proven to make you desire sugar even more. So watch out!
And, for all of us with a sweet tooth, there are a number of natural sugar substitutes on the market. You can always grab a box at your local supermarket. One example, Stevia or Truvia, is an herb first discovered in South America. It has no artificial flavorings, and tastes even sweeter than sugar.
So, don’t let the word fool you. There is nothing “diet” about diet soda and always keep in mind the better sugar substitutes when satisfying your cravings!
