Years ago, Christina Grimmie was performing songs with a microphone in hand from a karaoke machine in her living room. Today, the YouTube sensation is on the brink of superstardom holding the lead in the MyYouTube contest where participating artists ask their fans to subscribe to their YouTube channels. Christina leads with 157,510 votes. Some of the superstars she’s ahead of include Justin Timberlake, Rhianna, and her friend Selena Gomez.
At 17, Grimmie, who considers her style soulful with a rocker twist, has uploaded nearly 43 videos under her YouTube username zeldaxlove64. The singer/pianist's homemade videos showcase her playing the keyboard as well as singing to some of our favorite artists such as Celine Dion, Bruno Mars, Christina Aguilera, and Katy Perry. Covering pop hits off the Itunes chart, her rendition of Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA" has received over 4 million views. YouTube and Fanlala fans aren't the only ones interested in this young lady. Her videos have become so popular that even industry insiders have also taken notice of her talent. Grimmie has been working with the likes of popstar Selena Gomez and we recently caught up with her during rehearsals before a big show with Selena.
The winner will be announced on Wednesday, February 16 on the MyYouTube webpage.
Look out Justin Bieber! Christina Grimmie might be the next teen popstar to be discovered on YouTube.
