After a $250 million renovation to Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City was given the rights to host the 83rd edition of the MLB All-Star Game and Home Run Derby. Monday night the festivities began as Prince Fielder and Jose Bautista knocked baseball after baseball out of the park.
Prince Fielder ended up winning the competition hitting 12 homeruns in the final round and 28 in total. Fielder also hit the longest homerun of the night, blasting the ball a massive 476 feet from home plate! The stadium proved to be a great venue for the event as batters hit splash home run after splash home run into the center field fountain. After an excellent start to the 2012 All-Star Break, the action will continue Tuesday night with the All-Star Game.
Matt Cain will be the starting pitcher for the National League versus Justin Verlander and the American League. In what is definitely going to be a fun game to watch, the All-Star game tonight is sure to be competitive because the winning team will earn their league home field advantage in the World Series. Tune into ESPN for coverage beginning at 8:00 PM EST and make sure to go to our MLB Club for more baseball news!
