Pirates of the Caribbean is a series of fantasy-adventure films which follows Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), along with Angelica (Penelope Cruz) in different adventurous quests. It was in 2003 that the first installment “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” was released and many become obsessed with the idea of pirates sailing the seas. Pirate mania soon became a huge success, and since then two more installments have been released, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007).” The fourth installment of the film, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” is set to release in May.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
The films started with their first release in 2003 called Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. The conflict of the movie begins when Elizabeth Swann is kidnapped by the crew of the Black Pearl in order to lift a curse placed on them after stealing Aztec gold. Will Turner who is secretly romantically fond of Elizabeth, convinces pirate Jack Sparrow to help him rescue his love interest.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
In the second installment, the East Indian Trading Company’s new officer Lord Beckett imprisons Elizabeth and Will Turner for helping Captain Jack Sparrow in his escape. Beckett then offers them his freedom as well as Sparrow’s if he locates Sparrow and his compass. Meanwhile, Sparrow is on a quest of his own to find the Dead Man's Chest which contains the still beating heart of Captain Davy Jones in an attempt to escape his fate.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007)
Lord Beckett is on a quest to extinguish piracy forever with the help of Jones and his ship, The Flying Dutchman, in this adventurous third installment. The crew of the Black Pearl, Will, and Elizabeth don't stand a chance against the East India Trading Company without the help of Jack Sparrow. They attempt to rescue Jack from Davy Jones' Locker. As one of the Nine Pirate Lords, Jack is instrumental in summoning an ancient goddess that aids the crew against Beckett.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
Captain Jack Sparrow finds himself in a lovely mess in the fourth installment. He crosses path with a woman from his past named Angelica and suddenly becomes unsure of her intentions. Is she in love with him? Or is she using him to find the Fountain of Youth? Angelica soon forces him aboard Blackbeard's ship Queen Anne's Revenge and Jack find himself in fear of both Blackbeard and the woman from his past.

Pirates of the Caribbean is based on the Walt Disney theme park ride.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is set to release in May in IMAX, Disney Digital 3-D, and IMAX 3D.

The fourth film was shot in Hawaii.

Disney's future plans include two more installments.
